Our first destination after crossing into the Yukon was the famous Watson Lake location - Sign Post Forest. This road side attraction is home to over 77,000 sign posts where travelers from all over the world have been hanging up signs from their home town since 1942. This all started during the Alaska Highway Project when a US Soldier named Carl Lindley was asked to repair and hang a sign post. Apparently, he was homesick and at the same time he placed a signpost to his home town of Danville, Illinois. Soon others followed suit, and the tradition continued.
We wanted to make sure our hometown of Nantucket was represented, so we had a Nantucket sign made up and brought it with us. The most difficult part of this was finding a spot to hang our sign!! We finally found a spot right under another sign from Cape Cod!
Next up was crossing the border into Alaska! The mountain vistas are never ending here and we are consistently amazed with every turn we take.
We are looking forward to southern Alaska to see what is has to offer us next.
