We began our Pan-American Expedition July 8 on schedule in San Diego, CA. Our first day we had typical obstacles getting started - repacking and organizing the bikes, recalibrating our communication systems and charging equipment, which delayed our intended departure time. Ready to go and kick stands up - we finally headed out on US 1 - the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). Beginning at Santa Monica Pier and riding through Malibu, witnessing the devastation of the fires from January. You don’t realize how bad it was until you actually see it in person. Our thoughts go out to everyone impacted by those fires.
As we journeyed further on the PCH, we were in search of finding our shelter for the evening. We were fortunate enough to score a golden ticket, finding an amazing spot overlooking the rolling waves of
the Pacific Ocean with a near full moon. What a better way to start our adventure.
After an incredible night and recharging our internal batteries, we were excited to reach our next destination. Twisted throttles and off we were once again on the PCH, enjoying more picturesque scenery all the way to San Fransisco and the Golden Gate Bridge.
The following day, as we wrapped up our journey along the PCH, we unexpectedly stumbled onto one of the most breathtaking stretches of road we've ever experienced. The northern section of the PCH seemed to stretch on forever, each curve revealing new vistas, with misty fog rolling in over the dramatic cliffs and weaving through the redwood forests. We ended the epic day camping in the redwood forest.
Our next stop was the Canadian Border on Sunday morning.
